Methodology

Air France’s CO2 Calculator calculates the CO2 emissions generated by your trip to all destinations served by the fleet of Air France, KLM and their subsidiaries (HOP!, KLM CityHopper, Transavia). This figure reflects the actual performance of our operations to each destination.

CO2 emissions are proportional to fuel consumption: To calculate the upstream emissions (generated by the production of fuel and its distribution in France), multiply the result by 0.19

The calculation is based on the actual operating data recorded on each flight of past year:

  • the type(s) of aircraft operated on the route,
  • the actual fuel consumption on each route,
  • the number of passengers carried on each route,
  • the weight of baggage and goods carried on each route.

Most of our aircrafts carry both passengers and freight. The methodology is based upon determination of the average fuel consumption per passenger and per ton of cargo for each flight, with a prorated value based on respective weights, including cabin equipment.

Please note: If your flight is operated by another airline, we suggest you consult the calculator of the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) to find out your CO2 emissions: http://eco-calculateur.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/
