The 2011 South East Asia Science Film Festival just complimented the “Forests and People” film by GoodPlanet with the Visual Effects Award. But GoodPlanet is not yet into Hollywood's conquest as this award compliments the film that demonstrates the highest level of visual craftsmanship and which, beyond the aesthetic, serves an educational purpose by explaining clearly and engagingly scientific principles or processes. Produced by Yann Arthus-Bertrand et recognized as the United Nations official Year Of Forests film, it is still freely downloadable so anyone can watch it and screen it in public.

We will be 7 billion people on Earth. On this occasion, and while the project "6 billion Others" is about to change its name, the GoodPlanet foundation launches a global campaign video on YouTube inviting people around the world to send messages to the planet. The project, entitled "What's yours ?” include the messages from Kofi Annan, Yann Arthus-Bertrand and the GoodPlanet team. What about you : what is your message ?

The new films of 7 billion Others : ‘Development Matters”

With the support of the European Union and in collaboration with RFI and FRANCE 24, 7 billion Others set out to meet the men and women all over the world, to record their testimonies and reflect upon the issues of the Millenium Development Goals.

From the 17th September 2011, 28 short films will be broadcasted in french and english on the news channel FRANCE 24. During 28 weeks, every Saturday at 9h50 GMT, you can discover a new short film.

4 other films of 30 minutes will be integrated to 6 billion Others exhibitions and hopefully shown more largely soon.

Some figures about the project “Development Matters” :

• 16 countries visited : Guatemala, Ecuador, Brazil, Senegal, Botswana, DRC, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Lebanon, Georgia, India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Cambodia
• 523 new interviews (269 men / 254 women)
• 463 hours filmed

Launch of GoodPlanet Belgium

After 6 years of existence in France, GoodPlanet expands abroad and have has just settled in Belgium !

GoodPlanet.be was officially launched May 10, 2011 on the occasion of Philanthropy Day in Brussels.

This project would not have been possible without the collaboration of GoodPlanet with the NGO GREEN and the "Roi Baudouin" Foundation.

Those both associations are already settled in Belgium and have rich experiences especially in the sustainable development field.

This first branch of GoodPlanet.org will enable the foundation to promote its initiatives abroad in organizing cultural and educational events to raise awareness on environmental and sustainable development issues.

GoodPlanet publishes its new educational posters on the theme of forests "Forest, a living community "

Each year, the GoodPlanet foundation publishes 20 educational posters large format on a theme related to sustainable development.

On the occasion of the International Year of Forests, 19 international photographers including Yann Arthus-Bertrand agreed to participate in this operation. Teachers and students can understand the variety, the role and resources of forests of the world and the threats that they and their people face.

This exhibition will enable teachers to raise students awarness about environment.

The posters are now available in French and English but will soon be translated into many languages for all schools in the world !

the 10:10 campaign

10:10 is an international mobilisation campaign against climate change which encourages all people, companies, local authorities and organisations to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 10 % over a period of 12 months starting from 2010.
This voluntary apolitical campaign launched in England in September 2009 and it is now active in 152 countries. The GoodPlanet Foundation chaired by Yann Arthus-Bertrand has taken over the reins of the campaign in France with the support of the WWF and ADEME*.
10:10 encourages each person to take action for the planet at their level according to their ability because TAKING ACTION MAKES YOU HAPPY !

ACHIEVEMENTS

Today in the world, almost 110 000 people have signed up to 10:10. The town councils of Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Lille and several dozen other towns have joined the campaign and so have the French Ministry of Education, the French Ministry of the Interior, the Medef**, the French Tennis Federation, Saint Etienne Football club and the Francofolies and Eurockéennes music festivals. The Socialist Party, the UMP, the Greens and the Communist Party have also signed up. Many companies have also joined the campaign : L'Oréal, Danone, Bolloré, Transdev, Cortal Consors, etc…
In all, almost 200 local authorities and over 300 companies have joined the campaign.

RESULTS & PE RSPECTIVES

October 10, 2010 was the highlight of the 10:10 campaign, marked by dozens of events that were organised all over France. In Paris, almost 10 000 people gathered for a concert with an exceptional line-up for the global day of climate action. This day made a lot of individuals as well as companies and local authorities aware of the issues and there were many new signatures. The 10:10 campaign will continue raising awareness in 2011 because we must make a long-term commitment to reducing greenhouse gases.

The exhibition 6 billion Others in Spain and Brazil

Several cameramen went around the world for five years, interviewing people on Earth. 5600 interviews were collected in 78 countries. After France (Paris, Rennes, Marseille, Bordeaux), Burma, Italy, China, Belgium, "6 billion Others" is welcomed, for its first stop in Spain at the San Telmo Museum, April 2 to 21 August. The museum that has long been closed, reopens for a special exhibition with a contemporary and intimate scenography with more than 11 hours of movies. From April 20 until July 10, 6 billion Others settled at the legendary Museum of Art of Sao Paulo, Brazil, which houses the largest collection of art from Latin America. For its first step in Latin America, the project will be completed by a new film made specially for the occasion.

Back then, we lived under a system that denied ordinary people any right whatsoever to know about even essential facts and events. So we were kept in the dark about the radiation leaking from the shattered reactor at Chernobyl – and blowing in the winds over northern Europe.
